ABOUT ME

Drew is a pastor at ONE Fellowship in Charleston, South Carolina and a former Seattle church planter. He writes regularly for Keylife, XXXChurch and contributes to Christianity Today and Gospel-Centered Discipleship. His first book Invisible Grief is set to release through Christian Focus Publication on January 20, 2026. This book is the product of a long journey through infertility and pastoring/connecting with others experiencing their own seen of invisible, long-term grief from what has never been and may never be.

Drew loves the local church. He’s had the privilege and opportunity to serve in a variety of contexts and roles over the past 20 years. He’s grateful for Avondale First Baptist in Atlanta, GA who gave him a shot right out of college, and for the years spent at River Hills Baptist in the Upstate of SC. He’s thankful for the 8 year season in Seattle, church-planting and shepherding an amazing community of people who love Jesus. Drew is honored to be serving at ONE Fellowship in Charleston, SC for the past 6 years. “There is nothing like this beautifully, messy family known as the local church. Everything I write comes from real experiences with Jesus’ bride. I have no desire to write anything hypothetically, instead hoping to share pastoral wisdom and experience through honest, conversational language. I hope that if you read anything I’ve written, it feels like you’re in my living room having a conversation around the fire.”

As far as educational experience, Drew holds a Pastoral Studies degree from Cedarville University and a Master of Theological Studies from Liberty University.

Family is everything. In the words of the Avett Brothers, “Always remember there is nothing worth sharing like the love that lets us share our name.” Drew has been married to his wife Laura for 18 years. Over that 18 years they have gone through a wide variety of seasons. Without a doubt the most challenging season has been ongoing infertility. This is a grief they carry along with joy. “This is what it looks like to be human, it’s not all clean cut. We are often waking with joy in one hand and grief or fragments of grief in the other. God has met us there and continues to meet us there.” In 2018 Drew and Laura had the greatest joy of their life in welcoming Silas Jaxon Hensley into the family through the beautiful gift of adoption. He is now 6 years old and may not carry our DNA, but absolutely has their hearts.

When Drew isn’t pastoring or writing you will most likely find him cooking in the kitchen with Laura, fishing on our pond with Silas, listening to an insane amount of music, or enjoying and celebrating life with good friends and family.
